Dr. Emily Whitecotton, Principal
Inquiry matters because it helps students truly understand what they are learning—not just memorize information. When we learn through inquiry, we ask questions, listen to one another, and build understanding together through real experiences.
As principal, I believe inquiry adds humanity to education. It creates classrooms where students feel heard, where different perspectives are valued, and where learning is something we experience together. My role is to make sure our teachers and students have the time, space, resources, and support they need to do this work well.
I work to build a strong school community by encouraging collaboration, meaningful conversations, and shared problem-solving among students, staff, and families. I am committed to creating a school where every member of our community feels welcome, valued, and empowered to contribute to our learning home.
Mrs. Megan Drayton, Assistant Principal
I began my career as an upper elementary classroom teacher. I held a role as a teacher for the district's Summer Reading Camp, 1st through 3rd graders, to reinforce readers’ identities and promote growth for thirteen years. I also served as a Professional Development Facilitator at the district level and school level with an emphasis on inquiry as a stance and Data Team/PLC development for nine years. I participated in curriculum writing at the school, district and state level. I have experience as an Assistant Principal of Instruction in a middle school setting. I am deeply passionate about systems improvement through strong instructional leadership and about supporting our principal and school community at CFI to further strengthen compassionate, sustainable systems that support authentic instruction, inquiry, and high-impact teaching and learning for all children.
When I'm not at work, I spend my time engaging. in what brings me peace. I find peace in reading a book, discovering and developing new skills, and exploring new places. I appreciate being surrounded by people I love and find joy in small moments with them. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Matthew. We have one daughter, Mila, who will join us at CFI during her 5th grade year. We also have a standard poodle we love immensely, Apollo, who joins us on most outdoor adventures.
